SMS, MMS, or RCS text messages

SMS (Short Message Service) lets you send and receive short text messages.

MMS (Multimedia Message Service) lets you send and receive text messages with graphics, sound clips, videos, and other media.

RCS (Rich Communication Services) replaces SMS and MMS and includes higher resolution media and file sharing. It supports some other features, like read receipts. Unlike iMessage, it is not end-to-end encrypted.

If you set up text message forwarding on your iPhone, you can send and receive SMS, MMS, or RCS text messages on your Mac.
