Get quick info with Dashboard
Dashboard is a collection of small programs, called “widgets,” that let you quickly do a wide variety of tasks such as checking stock prices, finding weather information, and more.
Note: You can also use widgets in Today view in Notification Center. For more information, see Use Notification Center.
Turn on Dashboard
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Mission Control.
Click the Dashboard pop-up menu, then choose how Dashboard appears.
As Space: Dashboard appears in a separate space. You can get to Dashboard by pressing its keyboard shortcut or by moving between spaces.
As Overlay: Dashboard appears over your desktop.
Set Dashboard shortcuts
Depending on your mouse or trackpad, you may see two columns of pop-up menus in the Keyboard and Mouse Shortcuts section.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Mission Control.
In the Keyboard and Mouse Shortcuts section, click the Show Dashboard pop-up menu at the bottom of the preference pane, then select a keyboard shortcut.
If you see a second Show Dashboard pop-up menu, you can select a mouse shortcut.
Click Hot Corners, click a pop-up menu, then choose Dashboard.
When you move your pointer to that screen corner, Dashboard opens.
Open Dashboard
Ask Siri: Click the Siri icon in the menu bar, then say something like “Open Dashboard.”
From Launchpad: Open Launchpad, then click Dashboard.
From a trackpad: If Dashboard is set as a space, swipe right with three fingers. To close Dashboard, swipe left.
From a mouse: Click the mouse using the mouse shortcut set in Mission Control preferences.
From a keyboard: Press the keyboard shortcut set in Mission Control preferences.
To close Dashboard, press the Escape key, click anywhere on the screen, or use the mouse or trackpad shortcut again.
Choose widgets to show in Dashboard
Add a widget: In Dashboard, click the Add button in the lower-left corner of the screen, then click a widget.
To organize widgets in your Dashboard, drag them around on the screen.
Remove a widget: In Dashboard, click the Remove button in the lower-left corner of the screen, then click the Close button of the widget you want to remove.
If you don’t see a close button, press the Option key, then move the pointer over the widget.
Set options for widgets
Some widgets let you change settings. For example, in the Stickies widget you can change the font or color of the note.
In Dashboard, move the pointer over a widget, then click the Info button , if available, to see the widget settings.
