Join a Family Sharing group in Family Sharing on Mac
You can join a Family Sharing group when the family organizer adds you, or when you accept an invitation.
After joining a Family Sharing group, you can do any of the following:
Change your Family Sharing settings.
Change the Apple ID you use to share your purchases with your group, or stop sharing your purchases.
Choose whether each family member can see the location of your devices.
Note: To learn how to add family members if you’re the family organizer, see Add family members to a Family Sharing group. For information about the settings you can change as the family organizer, see Manage a Family Sharing group on Mac.
Join on the family organizer’s Mac
If you’re nearby when the family organizer adds you to the Family Sharing group, you can join the group immediately by entering your Apple ID and password on the family organizer’s Mac, iOS device, or iPadOS device.
Before you can share family purchases, you must confirm the Apple ID you want to use to share iTunes Store, App Store, and Apple Books purchases.
On the family organizer’s Mac, iOS, or iPadOS device, enter your Apple ID and password.
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then make sure you’re signed in with your Apple ID. If you’re not signed in, click Sign in with your Apple ID at the top of the sidebar, then follow the onscreen instructions to enter your Apple ID information.
Click Family in the sidebar.
Click Accept on the right, then follow the onscreen instructions.
Accept or decline an invitation on your Mac
Click the invitation you received from the family organizer using Mail, Messages, or AirDrop.
Do one of the following:
Join the family: Click Join Family.
Don’t join the family: Click Decline.
If you don’t have an Apple ID, you must create one before you can accept an invitation to a Family Sharing group.
After you join, family members receive an email informing them that they are now sharing with you.
