Create hardware reports in Remote Desktop
You can create reports on client hardware usage, including serial numbers, network interfaces, USB, and Thunderbolt devices. You can use these reports to determine your client computers’ capabilities (for example, which have the fastest processors) and their needs (for example, which need more memory or more storage space).
Get complete system information
The System Overview report provides details about the hardware of any client computer. The System Overview report includes information on computers’ hardware, system software, displays, networking, external devices, and more. For information, see Report field definitions.
In Remote Desktop , select a computer list in the sidebar of the main window, select one or more computers, then choose Report > System Overview.
Select or deselect items as desired.
To create a report using new data, select Rebuild Data For Report. To create a report using saved data only, deselect Rebuild Data For Report.
Click Get Report.
Set computer information
Client computers can submit comments or notes to supplement System Overview reports.
On the client computer, open System Preferences, click Sharing, then select Remote Management in the Sharing pane.
Click Computer Settings.
In the Computer Information fields, enter comments or notes, then click OK.
Get serial numbers
You can use a System Overview report to generate a list of serial numbers of your client computers.
In Remote Desktop , select a computer list in the sidebar of the main window, select one or more computers, then choose Report > System Overview.
Choose Report > System Overview.
In the Computer section, select Serial Number, then deselect all other items.
To create a report using new data, select Rebuild Data For Report. To create a report using saved data only, deselect Rebuild Data For Report.
Click Get Report.
Get storage information
The Storage report provides information about the internal storage devices of client computers, including hardware specifications, the number of volumes, the file system installed on the volumes, and backup information. For more report options, see Report field definitions. Basic information about internal storage devices can also be found in the Storage section of the System Overview report.
In Remote Desktop , select a computer list in the sidebar of the main window, select one or more computers, then choose Report > Storage.
Select the items to include.
To create a report using new data, select Rebuild Data For Report. To create a report using saved data only, deselect Rebuild Data For Report.
Click Get Report.
The permissions field shows whether a volume has owner permissions enabled.
Get Thunderbolt device information
The Thunderbolt Devices report provides the total count of Thunderbolt devices connected to the client computer. For more report options, see Report field definitions.
In Remote Desktop , select a computer list in the sidebar of the main window, select one or more computers, then choose Report > System Overview.
Click the disclosure triangle next to Devices (below the All Fields list), then select Thunderbolt Device Count.
To create a report using new data, select “Rebuild data for report.” To create a report using saved data only, deselect “Rebuild data for report.”
Click Get Report.
Get USB device information
The USB Devices report provides information about Universal Serial Bus (USB) devices connected to the client computer. This report collects such information as product name, vendor, device speed, and bus power. For more report options, see Report field definitions. Basic information about attached USB devices is also available in the Devices section of the System Overview report.
