Change Touch Bar settings on Mac
Depending on your Mac model, or if you’re using a Magic Keyboard, you can change options for the behavior of the Touch Bar and Control Strip in the Touch Bar settings pane of Keyboard settings.
To open this pane, choose Apple menu > System Settings, click Keyboard in the sidebar (you may need to scroll down), then click Touch Bar Settings on the right.

Show Control Strip | Include the Control Strip in the Touch Bar. This option isn’t available when the Touch Bar shows the expanded Control Strip or the F1, F2, etc. keys. | ||||||||||
Press and hold fn key to or Press and hold key to | Choose what happens when you press and hold the key on the keyboard. The choices vary depending on what the Touch Bar shows. | ||||||||||
Show typing suggestions | Display typing suggestions in the Touch Bar as you type. While typing, you can display a list of suggested words onscreen by pressing F5 (you may need to also press the Fn key, depending on your Mac model). | ||||||||||

To always show function keys (F1, F2, etc.) in the Touch Bar for specific apps, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Keyboard in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.) Click Keyboard Shortcuts on the right, select Function Keys in the list on the left, then add the apps on the right.
