Customise Siri on Mac
When you turn Siri on, you can customise your Siri settings — such as choosing how to activate Siri and what Siri can do.
Add Siri to the menu bar
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Control Centre in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
Go to Menu Bar Only (you may need to scroll down), click the pop-up menu next to Siri, then choose Show in Menu Bar.
Activate “Hey Siri” or “Siri” on Mac
If available for your device and language, you can choose to activate Siri by using “Hey Siri” or “Siri”.
Note: “Hey Siri” or “Siri” may not be available for your device or language. To check whether it’s available for your device and language, see the Apple Support article Use Siri on all your Apple devices.
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Siri in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
Click the pop-up menu next to “Listen for”, then choose an option.
When this option is on and you turn on “Allow Siri when locked”, you can also use Siri even if your Mac is locked or in Sleep mode.
Follow the onscreen instructions to finish setting up “Hey Siri” or “Siri”.
Customise the keyboard shortcut to activate Siri
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Siri in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
Click the pop-up menu next to “Keyboard shortcut”, then choose a shortcut to activate Siri or create your own.
Choose the language and voice Siri uses
You can further customise Siri by choosing the language and voice Siri uses.
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Siri in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
Click the pop-up menu next to “Language”, then choose a language.
Click the Select button next to “Siri voice”, then make the following choices in the pop-up menu that appears:
Voice variety
Siri voice
Customise Siri responses
You can customise Siri responses by choosing to mute Siri, show what Siri says onscreen and show what you say onscreen.
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Siri in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
Click Siri Responses.
In the pop-up menu that appears, do any of the following:
Voice feedback: Turn off to mute Siri — the response from Siri is shown in the Siri window but not spoken.
Always show Siri captions: Turn on to show what Siri says on screen.
Always show speech: Turn on to show what you say on screen.
You can also customise the apps Siri has access to. For more information, see How Siri Suggestions work.
