Adjust a title’s appearance in Final Cut Pro for iPad
After you add a title, you can edit its text and change its font, size, color, and more. When a title has multiple layers of text (a headline plus a subhead, for example), you can modify many of these settings for each text layer separately.
Edit title text
After you add a title clip to the timeline, it appears in your project with placeholder text (“Title” or “Headline Text,” for example). You can customize the title with your own text.
In Final Cut Pro for iPad, open a project.
Tap a title clip in the timeline, then drag the playhead over the clip (to see the text in the viewer).
Do one of the following:
In the viewer, tap the text you want to modify, then tap it again.
Tap Inspect in the lower-left corner of the screen, tap at the top of the inspector, tap Text, Text 1, or Text 2 (under Text Layers), then tap in the text field at the top of the Text tab .
In the text field at the top of the inspector, tap to delete the text (or double-tap the text to select it), then type new text.
The new text appears in the viewer.
When you’re finished editing the text, double-tap outside the text in the viewer, tap to close the keyboard, or tap at the top of the inspector.
Change the font, size, or capitalization of title text
In Final Cut Pro for iPad, open a project.
Tap a title clip in the timeline, then drag the playhead over the clip (to see the text in the viewer).
In the viewer, tap the text you want to modify.
In the Text tab of the inspector, do any of the following:
Change the font: Tap the font name next to Font, then tap a new font.
Change the font size: Drag the Size dial. You can also tap the Size field, then use the keypad to enter a new value.
Make the text characters uppercase: Turn on All Caps. To adjust the size of the capital letters, drag the All Caps Size slider. You can also tap the number field next to All Caps Size, then use the keypad to enter a new value.
Tip: To reset a slider or dial to its default value, double-tap it.
When you’re finished, double-tap outside the text in the viewer, or tap at the top of the inspector.
Change the color of title text
In Final Cut Pro for iPad, open a project.
Tap a title clip in the timeline, then drag the playhead over the clip (to see the text in the viewer).
Do one of the following:
In the viewer, tap the title text you want to modify.
Tap Inspect in the lower-left corner of the screen, tap at the top of the inspector, then tap Text, Text 1, or Text 2 (under Text Layers).
In the Text tab of the inspector, tap the color well, then do one of the following:
Tap a different color in the palette.
To choose a color from an image in the viewer, tap the eyedropper, then drag the circle over a color in the viewer.
When you’re finished, tap outside the palette to close it, then double-tap outside the text in the viewer, or tap at the top of the inspector.
Change the background color or transparency of a full-screen title
For full-screen titles (titles that have an opaque, colored background), you can modify the default colors or make the background transparent.
In Final Cut Pro for iPad, open a project.
Tap a title clip in the timeline, then drag the playhead over the clip (to see the text in the viewer).
Tap Inspect in the lower-left corner of the screen, then tap at the top of the inspector.
Under Options in the inspector, do any of the following:
Change the background colors: Tap any of the color wells (Custom Color 1, Custom Color 2, and so on), tap a different color in the palette, then tap outside the palette to close it.
Make the background a single solid color: Tap to the right of Background, then tap Solid Color. The background changes to Custom Color 1.
Make the background transparent: Tap to the right of Background, then tap Off. In the viewer, the title is now superimposed over any clips underneath it in the timeline.
To restore the title clip to its default background, tap to the right of Background, then tap Default.
Add an outline, glow, or drop shadow
In Final Cut Pro for iPad, open a project.
Tap a title clip in the timeline, then drag the playhead over the clip (to see the text in the viewer).
Do one of the following:
In the viewer, tap the title text you want to modify, then tap it again.
Tap Inspect in the lower-left corner of the screen, tap at the top of the inspector, then tap Text, Text 1, or Text 2 (under Text Layers).
Scroll down in the Text tab of the inspector, then do any of the following:

Add a color glow: Turn on Glow, then adjust any of the controls below it. Use the color well to change the glow color; drag the Radius dial to change the glow thickness; or tap the Blur field, then use the keypad to extend the glow effect in a horizontal (X) or vertical (Y) direction.
Add a drop shadow: Turn on Drop Shadow, then adjust any of the controls below it. Use the color well to change the shadow color; drag the Opacity slider to change the shadow opacity; drag the Distance and Angle dials to offset the shadow in any direction; or tap the Blur field, then use the keypad to fade the shadow in a horizontal (X) or vertical (Y) direction.
When you’re finished, double-tap outside the text in the viewer, or tap at the top of the inspector.
Change a title’s HDR brightness, opacity, or blend mode
When you connect a title clip to an HDR video clip in the timeline, the superimposed text in the viewer may seem dimmer than the video because titles in Final Cut Pro are SDR elements. You can increase the color intensity of titles by adjusting the Graphics HDR Level slider.
For subtle aesthetic effects, you can also change a superimposed title’s opacity or how it blends with the clip beneath it in the timeline.
Note: Changing a title clip’s HDR brightness, opacity, or blend mode affects the entire title clip, rather than individual text layers in a multilayer title clip.
In Final Cut Pro for iPad, open a project.
Tap a title clip in the timeline, then drag the playhead over the clip (to see the text in the viewer).
Tap Inspect in the lower-left corner of the screen, then tap at the top of the inspector.
Do any of the following:
Change the title’s HDR intensity: Drag the Graphics HDR Level slider left or right. You can also tap the number field above the slider, then use the keypad to change the intensity value.
Tip: To reset a slider or dial to its default value, double-tap it.
Change the title’s opacity: Drag the Opacity slider. You can also tap the Opacity field, then use the keypad to change the opacity value.
Change how the title blends with colors in the clip beneath it in the timeline: Tap next to Blend Mode, then tap an option (Darken or Multiply, for example).
Note: The blend modes in Final Cut Pro for iPad are identical to those in the Final Cut Pro and Motion apps on Mac. For detailed information about blend modes, see the Motion User Guide.
Tip: For best playback quality, render a title clip after you add or adjust it.
