Add soundtracks in Final Cut Pro for iPad
A Final Cut Pro for iPad subscription includes a variety of music soundtracks that you can download and add to your project.
The soundtracks dynamically adjust to fit the length of your project. This means you can change the soundtrack to any duration without the need for trimming, moving, nudging, or crossfading (to prevent an abrupt end to the music)—the soundtrack automatically adjusts to fit the new duration.
Browse and preview soundtracks
In Final Cut Pro for iPad, open a project.
Tap in the toolbar, then tap Soundtracks in the browser.
If you don’t see Soundtracks, swipe left at the top of the browser.
Swipe up or down in the browser to see thumbnails of soundtracks grouped according to category (Chill, Driving, Epic, Magical, and so on).
To preview an item, tap its thumbnail.
If the music doesn’t immediately start playing, you may have to wait a moment for it to download, then tap below the viewer. To end the preview, tap .
Drag a soundtrack to the timeline
The easiest way to add a soundtrack clip to your video is to drag its thumbnail from the browser to the timeline.
In Final Cut Pro for iPad, open a project.
Tap in the toolbar, then tap Soundtracks in the browser.
Drag a soundtrack thumbnail from the browser to the point in the timeline where you want the soundtrack to start, then release your finger.
As you drag, a vertical line appears in the timeline, indicating where soundtrack clip will be connected to the primary storyline.
The music is connected below the primary storyline as an olive-color clip, indicating that it’s a music soundtrack included with your subscription. The clip is assigned a Music role and positioned below the Dialogue and Effects roles in the timeline. See Use roles to organize audio clips in Final Cut Pro for iPad.
To change the timing of the soundtrack clip, trim the start or end point.
The music adjusts automatically to match the new duration.
Add a soundtrack clip to the timeline using the Edit Mode control
For more precise placement of soundtrack clips in the timeline, use the Edit Mode control.
In Final Cut Pro for iPad, open a project.
Tap in the toolbar, tap Soundtracks in the browser, then tap a thumbnail.
In the timeline, drag the playhead to the frame where you want to place the soundtrack clip.
Tip: For the most precise placement, use the jog wheel to position the playhead.
Tap in the Edit Mode control below the browser, tap Connect at Playhead in the menu, then tap the Connect button.

Note: If you use a soundtrack included with Final Cut Pro for iPad in an external project that you want to open in Final Cut Pro for Mac, you need to export the project so that the soundtrack is rendered as an AAC audio file. If you don’t export the project before importing it into Final Cut Pro on your Mac, the soundtrack will not be included.
