Arrange clips in the timeline in Final Cut Pro for iPad
In Final Cut Pro, you can arrange and reorder clips in the timeline however you like. You can drag clips to new locations, and you can copy, cut, and paste clips.
By default, when you move clips in the timeline, other clips are automatically repositioned to make room, and any gaps left by the moved clips are closed up. If you want to move a clip without affecting the position of other clips in the timeline, you can turn on Position mode.
Move clips by dragging them
In Final Cut Pro for iPad, open a project.
Drag the clips to a new location in the timeline; when a white dashed outline appears, release your finger.
Final Cut Pro ripples clips (and any connected clips) in the timeline to make room for the repositioned clips and to close the gap left by the moved clips. You can also drag clips vertically in and out of the primary storyline, creating connected clips.
Copy and paste clips
In Final Cut Pro for iPad, open a project.
Touch and hold the selection, then tap an option:
Copy: Copies the selection to the Clipboard.
Cut: Copies the selection to the Clipboard and removes the selection from the timeline.
Final Cut Pro ripples clips (and any connected clips) in the timeline to close the gap left by the removed clips.
Drag the playhead to the location in the timeline where you want to paste the clips.
Tip: You can use the jog wheel to position the playhead accurately.
Touch and hold an empty area of the timeline, then tap Paste at Playhead.
Depending on your original selection and where the playhead is positioned, Final Cut Pro performs an insert edit, a connect edit, or an append edit.
On a connected or paired keyboard, you can use keyboard shortcuts to copy, cut, paste, and connect clips.
Nudge connected clips with the jog wheel
You can move connected clips forward or backward a frame at a time using the jog wheel.
Drag clips in Position mode
You can drag clips in Position mode so that your edit doesn’t affect the timing of subsequent clips in the timeline or the duration of your timeline. When you drag a clip in Position mode, it overwrites clips at the new location, and a gap clip is created at the original location.
In Final Cut Pro for iPad, open a project.
Tap in the top-right corner of the timeline.
If doesn’t appear at the top of the timeline, tap Options in the top-right corner of the timeline, then turn on Show Controls in Timeline.
Drag the clips to a new location in the timeline.
The moved clips overwrite any clips at the new location, and a gap clip fills in the vacated part of the timeline.
