Import iMovie for iOS projects into Final Cut Pro for iPad
In Final Cut Pro for iPad, you can import and edit projects created in iMovie on an iPhone or iPad. You can use AirDrop or iCloud Drive to import iMovie projects created on another device, or import projects directly from iMovie on the same iPad.
Import an iMovie for iOS project using AirDrop
Open iMovie on your iPhone or iPad, then tap a project in the Projects browser.
Tap
, tap Options, tap Project, then tap Back.Tap AirDrop, then tap the iPad you want to transfer to.
If iMovie is installed on the iPad you’re transferring to, the project opens in iMovie; close iMovie to continue importing the project into Final Cut Pro for iPad.
In Final Cut Pro on your iPad, open the Projects screen.
Tap
at the top of the project list on the left, tap Import, then tap iMovie for iOS Project.Tap On My iPad below Locations in the sidebar, tap the iMovie folder on the right, then tap the project.
The project appears in the project list.
Import an iMovie for iOS project using iCloud Drive
Open iMovie on your iPhone or iPad, then tap a project in the Projects browser.
Tap
, tap Options, tap Project, then tap Back.Tap Save to Files, then tap iCloud Drive in the sidebar.
Navigate to the folder you want to save the project to, then tap Save.
In Final Cut Pro on your iPad, open the Projects screen.
Tap
at the top of the project list on the left, tap Import, then tap iMovie for iOS Project.Tap iCloud Drive below Locations in the sidebar, navigate to the folder where you saved the iMovie project, then tap it.
The project appears in the project list.

Import an iMovie for iOS project directly from iMovie on the same iPad
Open iMovie on your iPad, then tap a project in the Projects browser.
Tap
, tap Options, tap Project, then tap Back.Tap Final Cut Pro, then tap Open Final Cut Pro.
The project appears in the project list in Final Cut Pro.
