Audio compression

A process that decreases the dynamic range of an audio signal by reducing the difference in level between the loudest and quietest parts of the audio. In Final Cut Pro, the Loudness control in the Audio tab of the inspector and the Compressor audio effect let you apply audio compression to a clip to reduce loud audio-level spikes and prevent softer parts of the audio from becoming inaudible.
