Mac computers with the Apple T2 Security Chip

The Apple T2 Security Chip is Apple's second-generation, custom silicon for Intel-based Mac computers.

  • MacBook Pro introduced in 2018 through 2020, excluding MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020)

  • MacBook Air introduced in 2018 through 2020, excluding MacBook Air (M1, 2020)

  • iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020) and iMac Pro

  • Mac mini (2018)

  • Mac Pro introduced in 2019

On Mac computers with this chip, System Information identifies the chip as “Apple T2 chip”:

  1. Press and hold the Option key while choosing Apple menu  > System Information.

  2. In the sidebar, select either Controller or iBridge, depending on the version of macOS in use.

  3. If you see “Apple T2 chip” on the right, your Mac has the Apple T2 Security Chip.

Starting with certain models introduced in late 2020, Apple began the transition from Intel processors to Apple silicon in Mac computers.
