luminance (nits)

An objective measurement of light emitted by a computer display, TV, or other imaging device at a given moment. An HDR display supports higher luminance levels than an SDR display. Luminance is measured in units of candelas per square meter (cd/m²), often referred to as nits. Nit comes from the Latin word nitere, meaning to shine or look bright.
