Set up Siri
When AirPods are connected to iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or Mac, you can use Siri to find information, play music, accept or decline incoming phone calls and FaceTime calls, announce notifications from apps, and more. See Find out what Siri can do in the iPhone User Guide.
Set up Siri on your device
If you haven’t set up Siri on your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or Mac, do any of the following:
iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings > Siri & Search, then turn on Listen for “Siri” or “Hey Siri.”
Apple Watch: Go to Settings > Siri, then turn on Listen for “Siri” or “Hey Siri.”
Mac: Choose Apple menu > System Settings, click Siri & Spotlight in the sidebar, turn on Ask Siri on the right, then turn on Listen for “Siri” or “Hey Siri.” (You may need to scroll down.)
If you have AirPods Pro (2nd generation), you can use “Hey Siri” or “Siri” to activate Siri. Other AirPods models require “Hey Siri” to activate Siri.
Set up Announce Calls with Siri
You can allow Siri to announce incoming calls with supported headphones. Do one of the following:
iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings > Siri & Search > Announce Calls, then choose Always, Headphones & Car, or Headphones Only.
Apple Watch: Wear your AirPods. On your Apple Watch, go to Settings > Announce Notifications, then turn on Announce Notifications.
Control which notifications are announced
Time-sensitive notifications are announced automatically when you’re wearing your AirPods and they’re paired with your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch. You can choose which apps to receive notifications from and how frequently you receive them.
On iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings > Notifications, then choose the app you want to adjust. Scroll down, then tap Announce Notifications.
On Apple Watch: Go to Settings > Siri > Announce Notifications. Scroll up, then tap the apps you want to receive audio notifications from.
You can limit notifications when you need to concentrate. See Set up Focus in the iPhone User Guide.
Change your settings to activate Siri with a touch
You can use the buttons on your AirPods to activate Siri. Set either of your AirPods (2nd generation) to activate Siri with a double tap, or set either of your AirPods Pro (1st generation) to activate Siri when you press and hold the force sensor.
Wear your AirPods, and make sure they’re connected to your device.
On your device, go to Settings , then tap the name of your AirPods at the top of the screen.
Select Left or Right, then choose Siri.
Note: The controls on AirPods (1st and 3rd generation), AirPods Pro (2nd generation), and AirPods Max are already set to activate Siri by default. See AirPods controls.
