Log (logarithmic) recording
A method of encoding video that preserves shadow and highlight details. A log recording takes the dynamic range (exposure range) of the source image and maps it across a logarithmic curve. This allows you to flexibly manipulate the shadows and highlights in post-production. Initially, a log recording looks flat, desaturated, and lacking in contrast. But when you apply a camera LUT or make manual color corrections, the video reflects the natural vibrancy and contrast of the original scene.
Apple Log is a capture option available when recording video with iPhone 15 Pro. Like the log modes of other camera manufacturers, Apple Log is designed to capture a higher dynamic range than SDR.
