iPhone 15 Pro Max Taptic Engine 

Before You Begin

 Warning

Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.

Remove the following parts before you begin:

Tools

  • 6.7-inch repair tray

  • Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm)

  • ESD-safe tweezers

  • JCIS bit (adjustable driver)

  • JCIS bit (fixed driver)

  • Micro stix bit

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Super screw bit (adjustable driver)

  • Torque driver (green, 0.45 kgf cm)

  • Torque driver (teal, 0.75 kgf cm)

Removal

  1. Place the enclosure in the repair tray with the USB-C connector facing the cutout.

  2. Use a torque driver and the JCIS bit to remove the two crosshead screws from the Taptic Engine .

  3. Use a torque driver and the Micro stix bit to remove the trilobe screw from the grounding spring. Set aside the screw. Then remove the grounding spring from the enclosure and save it for reassembly.

    • Important: If the grounding spring is bent or damaged, you must install a replacement grounding spring.

  4. Use a torque driver and the super screw bit to remove the super screw from the Taptic Engine . Set aside the screw.

  5. Lift the end of the Taptic Engine  flex cable off the connector.

  6. Remove the Taptic Engine  and battery shim from the enclosure.

Reassembly

  1. If you’re reinstalling the existing Taptic Engine , keep the battery shim attached to the Taptic Engine . If you’re installing a replacement Taptic Engine , peel the battery shim off the original Taptic Engine  and adhere it to the replacement.

  2. Use ESD-safe tweezers to position the Taptic Engine  and battery shim in the enclosure.

  3. Press the end of the Taptic Engine  flex cable to the connector.

  4. Use the teal torque driver and super screw bit to install one new super screw (923-09809) into the Taptic Engine .

  5. Position the grounding spring in the enclosure. Then use the green torque driver and Micro stix bit to install one new trilobe screw (923-09964) into the Taptic Engine.

    • Important: If the grounding spring is bent or damaged, you must install a replacement grounding spring.

  6. Use the green torque driver and JCIS bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-09966) (1) into the Taptic Engine .

  7. Set the torque on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 14.5 Ncm. Then use the adjustable torque driver and adjustable driver JCIS bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-10044) (2) into the Taptic Engine .

Reinstall the following parts to complete reassembly:
