If Logic Pro for iPad isn't working

Learn what to do if Logic Pro for iPad won't open, won't play your project, or isn't operating as expected in other ways.

Try these steps in order

  1. Restart your iPad

  2. Check for an iPadOS update

Restart your iPad

To restart your iPad, turn it off, then turn it back on.

Check for an iPadOS update

On your iPad, go to Settings > General > Software Update. The screen shows the currently installed version of iPadOS and whether an update is available.

Check for a Logic Pro for iPad update

  1. Open the App Store on your iPad.

  2. Tap your profile icon at the top right.

  3. If Logic Pro for iPad appears under Available Updates, tap Update next to the app.

Check the Logic Pro for iPad User Guide for information on using specific features. You can search the user guide for key terms shown in alerts, alert icons, or error messages.

Test with a new project

You can create a new project and test to check if the issue is with your project or Logic Pro app.

  1. In Logic Pro, tap the Projects Browser buttonProjects Browser button next to the project name in the control bar.

  2. Tap the New Project buttonNew Project button in the menu bar to open the New Project Chooser.

  3. In the New Project Chooser, tap the project type you want to create (Tracks or Live Loops).

  4. Add Apple Loops to the new project.

  5. Try to recreate the issue you were having. For example, if the project you're having an issue with uses a particular third-party plug-in, add it to the test project. If the problem reappears, the plug-in might be damaged or might need to be updated.

Disconnect external devices

If an external device like an audio interface or storage device is connected to your iPad, disconnect it:

  1. Turn off your iPad.

  2. Disconnect all external devices.

  3. Turn on your iPad.

If the issue only occurs when a particular external device is connected, you might need to update or service the device. Contact the manufacturer for support.

Use the built-in audio on your iPad

If you’re using an external audio interface with your iPad, use the built-in speakers and microphone on your iPad instead.

  1. In Logic Pro for iPad, tap the More buttonthe More button on the right side of the control bar then tap the Settings buttonthe Settings button .

  2. Tap App Settings, then tap Audio.

  3. Tap Input, then choose iPad Microphone.

  4. Tap Output, then choose Speaker.

If the issue doesn't occur when a you switch audio I/O, you might need to update or service the device. Contact the manufacturer for support.

When you're working on the same project on both your iPad and your Mac, make sure you're following the guidelines for successfully roundtripping a project. Some features and formats aren't supported on both platforms.
