iMac (24-inch, 2023, Four ports) USB-C Boards
Before You Begin
Remove the following part before you begin:
Tools
Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm) (923-02995)
ESD-safe tweezers
Nylon probe (black stick)
Support wedge kit (076-00507)
Torx plus 3IP 25 mm bit (923-07593)
Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.
Removal
Note: This procedure shows how to remove both USB-C boards. However, you can remove one USB-C board at a time.
Position the housing with the logic board facing up.
Peel off the polyester film tape from the USB-C boards, starting from the left side of the tape. Save the polyester film tape for reassembly.
Caution: Ensure that you remove only the polyester film tape. Don't remove the tape directly attached to each USB-C board.
Use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and 3IP bit to remove the two 3IP screws (923-05555) from each USB-C board.
Flip up the USB-C boards to access the USB-C board connector cowlings.
Caution: Ensure that the USB-C boards don’t touch the adapter board.
Release the speaker cable from the clip in the left USB-C board connector cowling.
Use the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver and 3IP bit to remove the two 3IP screws (923-05561) from each cowling.
Use the flat end of the black stick to lift the end of the right USB-C board flex cable off the connector on the adapter board. Remove the right USB-C board from the housing.
Note: Support the right USB-C board while disconnecting the flex cable, so that it doesn't fall onto the adapter board.
Use the flat end of the black stick to lift the end of the left USB-C board flex cable off the connector on the adapter board. Remove the left USB-C board from the housing.
Note: Support the left USB-C board while disconnecting the flex cable, so that it doesn't fall onto the adapter board.
Reassembly
Position the left USB-C board over the connector. Then press the end of the left USB-C board flex cable to the connector on the adapter board.
Caution: Ensure that the USB-C board doesn’t touch the adapter board.
Position the right USB-C board over the connector. Then press the end of the right USB-C board flex cable to the connector on the adapter board.
Caution: Ensure that the USB-C board doesn’t touch the adapter board.
Position the USB-C board connector cowlings over the connectors.
Important: Ensure that the USB-C board connector cowling with the clip for the speaker cable is positioned over the left USB-C connector.
Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 11.5 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and 3IP bit to reinstall the two 3IP screws (923-05561) into each cowling.
Use the flat end of the black stick to insert the speaker cable into the clip in the left USB-C board connector cowling.
Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 10 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and 3IP bit to reinstall the two 3IP screws (923-05555) into each USB-C board.
Reinstall the polyester film tape over the USB-C boards.
Important
If you’re installing a replacement USB-C board, use the included replacement polyester film tape instead of the existing polyester film tape.
Ensure that the polyester film tape is aligned properly over the USB-C boards and doesn't cover any part of the right speaker.
