Mac mini (2023 with M2 Pro) Logic Board

Before You Begin

Remove the following parts before you begin:

Tools

  • Adjustable torque driver (0.3–1.2 Nm)

  • Adjustable torque driver (1.2–3.0 Nm)

  • ESD-safe tweezers

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Torx T8 70 mm bit

  • Torx T10 50 mm bit

 Caution

This procedure requires System Configuration. After you’ve completed all removal and reassembly steps, learn how to initiate the System Configuration process.

Removal

  1. Use ESD-safe tweezers to peel the polyester film from the locking lever of the status indicator light flex cable.

    • Important: Don’t tear the polyester film off the flex cable.

  2. Flip up the locking lever (1) on the status indicator light flex cable connector. Then slide the end of the flex cable (2) out of the connector.

  3. Pinch the sides of the power supply signal cable connector (1). Then slide the end of the cable out of the connector (2).

  4. Use the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver and Torx T8 70 mm bit to remove the two T8 screws (923-08143) from the bus bar.

  5. Use the 1.2–3.0 Nm adjustable torque driver and Torx T10 50 mm bit to remove the three T10 screws (923-08140) from the logic board.

  6. Slightly lift the bus bar. Then slide the logic board out of the housing.

Reassembly

Important

If you’re reinstalling the existing logic board, skip to step 3. If you’re installing a replacement logic board, continue to step 1.

  1. Remove the speaker from the existing logic board. Install the speaker on the replacement logic board. Then continue to step 2.

  2. Remove the input/output (I/O) wall from the existing logic board. Install the I/O wall on the replacement logic board. Then continue to step 3.

  3. Insert the flat end of the black stick under the bus bar. Then position the other end of the black stick on top of the power supply as shown.

    • Note: This step provides clearance under the bus bar to install the logic board in step 5.

  4. Slide the logic board fully into the housing. Then remove the black stick.

  5. Use the black stick to guide the bus bar tabs into the highlighted openings as shown.

  6. Insert the Torx T10 50 mm bit into the 1.2–3.0 Nm adjustable torque driver. Set the torque value to 1.8 Nm.

  7. Use the adjustable torque driver and Torx T10 50 mm bit to reinstall the three T10 screws (923-08140) into the logic board.

  8. Insert the Torx T8 70 mm bit into the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver. Set the torque value to 0.65 Nm.

  9. Use the adjustable torque driver and Torx T8 70 mm bit to reinstall the two T8 screws (923-08143) into the bus bar.

  10. Slide the end of the power supply signal cable into the connector.

  11. Slide the end of the status indicator light flex cable into the connector (1). Then then flip down the locking lever (2).

  12. Press the polyester film onto the locking lever.
