Before You Begin
Warning
Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.
Remove the following part before you begin:
Tools
6.7-inch repair tray
Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm)
ESD-safe tweezers
JCIS bit (adjustable driver)
Nitrile or lint-free gloves
Nylon probe (black stick)
Torque driver (green, 0.45 kgf cm)
Caution
To avoid damaging the lenses, don’t touch the TrueDepth camera assembly or nearby parts.
Important
If you replace this part, it is recommended to run Repair Assistant in order to finish the repair. Repair Assistant will be available on the device after you’ve completed all reassembly steps.
Removal
Place the enclosure in the repair tray with the UBC-connector facing the cutout.
Put on the gloves to avoid contamination of the camera lenses.
Use a torque driver and the JCIS bit to remove the three crosshead screws from the camera.
Lift the ends of the two top camera flex cables off the connectors.
Note: The two top camera flex cable cover a third camera flex cable.
Lift the end of the third flex cable off the connector.
Use ESD-safe tweezers to grasp the bottom left camera screw hole. Then lift the camera out of the enclosure.
Caution: If you’re reinstalling the existing camera, place it facedown on the workspace with the camera cap covering the lenses.
Reassembly
Caution
To avoid contamination of the lenses, don’t remove the camera cap or the protective lens covers until you're ready to position the camera in the enclosure.
Put on the gloves to prevent contamination of the camera lenses.
Use ESD-safe tweezers to grasp the camera’s bottom left screw hole.
Important
To install a replacement camera, remove the protective lens covers and continue to step 3.
To reinstall the existing camera, remove the camera cap and inspect the lenses for contamination such as dust, scratches, or smudges. If there is no contamination, continue to step 3. If the camera is contaminated, repeat steps 1 and 2 with a replacement camera, remove the protective lens covers, and continue to step 3.
Use ESD-safe tweezers to tilt down the camera into the enclosure.
Use the flat end of the black stick to lift the top two camera flex cables out of the way. Then press the end of the bottom camera flex cable to the connector.
Press the ends of the top two camera flexes to the connectors.
Gently press on the camera to ensure it’s correctly positioned in the enclosure.
Set the torque on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 14.5 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and the adjustable torque driver JCIS bit to install the following new screws into the camera.
One crosshead screw (923-09572) (1)
One crosshead screw (923-09574) (2)
One crosshead screw (923-09573) (3)
Inspect the camera grounding spring above the camera. If the grounding spring isn’t bent or damaged, complete the reassembly. If the grounding spring is bent or damaged, continue to step 9.
Note the orientation of the camera grounding spring. Then use a torque driver and the JCIS bit to remove the crosshead screw from the camera grounding spring. Discard the grounding spring and set aside the screw.
Position the replacement camera grounding spring in the enclosure. Then use the green torque driver and JCIS bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-09965) into the grounding spring.
Reinstall the following part to complete reassembly:
Caution
Remove the iPhone from the repair tray and inspect the camera lenses for contamination such as dust, scratches, or smudges. If there is contamination, repeat all removal steps and install a replacement camera.
Important
After you’ve completed all reassembly steps, Repair Assistant will be available on the device and is recommended to finish the repair. Learn how to initiate Repair Assistant.
Camera calibration requires a well-lit room and will take approximately 5 minutes to complete. Follow the onscreen instructions.
