Research Interests

I'm working to develop quantum information devices using rare earth ions in crystals, including quantum memories, quantum repeaters, quantum transducers and optical quantum processors. I study the optical and spin properties of the rare earth ions with high-resolution optical spectroscopy, with a focus on high concentration crystals and on interactions between the rare earth ions. I aim to determine how material properties affect the performance of devices such as quantum memories, and to use this information to improve device performance.
