Prevalence of trachoma among Navajo Indian children
Abstract
Examination of some 6000 Navajo children in their schools in the Shiprock, New Mexico area between 1975 and 1977 yielded an overall prevalence of trachoma of 2.4%. The prevalence was highest for high schoolers (3.8%) and lowest for preschoolers (2.3%). These prevalences are lower than those found (6.0%) for Navajo schoolchildren in the Gallup, New Mexico area 8-9 yr previously.
