A new mechanism for blocking myeloid-derived suppressor cells by CpG

Melissa G Lechner et al. Clin Cancer Res. .

Abstract

In this issue of Clinical Cancer Research, Zoglmeier and colleagues show that CpG, via the induction of IFN-α, matures myeloid-derived suppressor cells to abrogate immune suppression in 2 murine solid tumor models.

The role of TLRs in the expansion and function of murine MDSC. TLR agonists expand and activate MDSC precursors into functionally suppressive cells. Treatment with CpG, however, activates plasmacytoid dendritic cells to produce IFN-α, which matures these cells into nonsuppressive antigen-presenting cells.
