IL-2 taken to HAART
Abstract
AIDS: Some studies show that IL-2 combined with highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) may cleanse the body of HIV. This was covered in several reports during the 6th Retrovirus Conference. While the drug appears to increase CD4 levels, it has serious side effects and must be used with caution. Several studies and theories of IL-2 are discussed, but it is too early to judge the long-term effects of IL-2 on HIV replication. One doctor warns that patients should not use IL-2 unless they are part of a clinical trial or consulting an expert on the drug.
