- Tim Bernard
Chief Executive Officer
Tim created Pivotal Scientific in 2008 in response to a gap in the market for a company to offer advice and support for small to medium-sized companies in the research reagents sector.
Tim has been involved in the life science industry for over 38 years. He has purchased and sold businesses and created and expanded them from inception to eventual sale. (Serotec Ltd, for whom Tim was Managing Director, sold in 2006, Innova Bioscience where Tim was Chairman sold in June 2017, Nordic-Mubio & Everest Biotech in 2019 and more recently Abcore in 2021).
Tim brings market knowledge and know-how on how to make a research company successful.
- James Bernard
Chairman
James has worked for over 35 years within the international Life Science market.
He has brought his wealth of executive level experience within the industry to Pivotal Scientific and uses his business knowledge to offer a broad range of financial, operational, legal and strategic skills to the Company.
- Stevan Hoyle
M&A Strategy
Stevan’s accomplishments include 17 years as a Director in the Vodafone Group. Stevan spent 11 of these years establishing enterprise businesses in the USA and across emerging markets in regions such as Africa, Middle East, India, Asia.
Currently, I leverage my extensive knowledge and network in the biotechnology sector as a Non-Executive Director and Advisor M&A at Pivotal Scientific, a leading biotechnology consultancy that helps companies grow sales and brand awareness. I support the business at all stages of the life cycle, from product development to market entry, and provide guidance on mergers and acquisitions, commercialization, and innovation. I also serve as a board advisor for several biotechnology companies, including 2BScientific, Absolute Antibody, and Trak Global Group, where I contribute to their strategic vision, growth plans, and operational excellence.
- Juliette Hillier
Financial Consultant
Juliette has a wealth of financial experience and heads up the day to day financial activities including; preparation of month end accounts, VAT returns, bank and balance sheet reconciliations, accruals and prepayments, audits and year end statutory accounts.
- Richard Atkins
Board Consultant - Non-Executive Director
Richard has spent the last 40 years driving business initiatives, within some of the fastest-paced industries in the world, Retail, Supply Chain, Technology and now Life Science. Working on cutting-edge technology projects for many global-based businesses.
- Georgia Higgins
Director
Georgia has a degree in Maths and Computer Sciences and has used this in the early part of her career to work within the financial and IT sector.
Now she focusses her attention to teaching children with social issues and brings her worldly experience to the Pivotal Scientific Limited Board.

- Sian Bolitho
Chief Technical Officer
With over 19 years in the life science sector and a PhD in Molecular Genetics from the University of East Anglia, Sian brings a wealth of scientific and industry knowledge to Pivotal Scientific. Sian has worked predominantly as a product and commercial manager for the last 19 years. Her focus has been to identify cutting edge technology, applications and novel scientific companies. With a skillset focused on bringing these technologies to new markets and working to build diverse, integrated portfolios for platforms, Sian’s experience, combined with her scientific knowledge, places her well to work within our Mergers & Acquisitions team on strategic, buy and sell side projects.
- Jenny Gillard
Chief Commercial Officer
Jenny has almost 10 years of Consultant/Account Management experience, working in Life Science Recruitment for 5-years before joining Pivotal Scientific in 2017.
Jenny manages our B2B Service clients, the PSL Alliance, and offers input into various strategic projects. She loves to understand clients and their companies and offers guidance or key considerations to help them improve their sales channel effectiveness.
- Jemma Mason
Operations Manager
Jemma joined Pivotal Scientific Limited in March 2017 having spent 10 years in the Financial arena. During this time, she established her project management skills and harnessed her key administration expertise, which ultimately led to her fulfilling the ever-increasing demands of her roles within the Nationwide Building Society.
Jemma brings a wealth of planning and organisational skills to the Pivotal Scientific Limited office, enabling her to effectively support the CEO – Tim Bernard and the Business Development and Marketing teams. Jemma is involved in organising our annual networking event Pivotal Links plus supporting companies within the PSL Alliance.
- Kristina Whitfield
Marketing Manager
Kristie joined Pivotal Scientific in 2016, bringing a BSc Hons in Biological Sciences and a Level 6 CIM in Digital Marketing. After three years with Alere Toxicology (now Abbott), she now oversees marketing activities at Pivotal Scientific.
- Melinda Higgins
Brand Design
Melinda comes from a design retail background.
Having spent several years working for Ikea in the Display and Communications department she decided to swap furniture and tea lights for antibodies and assays.
She uses her creative skills and knowledge to help companies determine and strengthen their brand identity, ensuring their brand accurately represents their core values and stands out in the competitive life science sector.

Digital Communications Manager
Jake is an experienced digital marketing professional, having previously worked in the arts and charity sectors.
Jake works on providing digital services such as PPC advertising and SEO for Pivotal Scientific and our clients.
- Gabrielle Foster
Digital Marketing Associate
Gaby started working in the marketing team at Pivotal in April 2022. Her love of life science started in biology class at school. She went on to study Biomedical Science at Cardiff University and then spent 2 years at the University of Barcelona studying a master’s degree in Translational Medicine where she wrote her thesis on improving the outcome of partial liver transplants.
The role at Pivotal allows Gaby to follow her interest in digital marketing (social media, website design) while still using her science background.
- Tania Puvirajesinghe
Scientific Analyst and Content Writer
A PhD-qualified writer, Tania has 14 years’ experience with diagnostic devices and life sciences products in academia and industry for several therapy areas. Starting her scientific career at Imperial College London in 2000, she went on to gain her own research funding as a scientist and principal investigator. Tania has written and published key scientific advances in several academic journals, including Nature Communications, as well as patents and successful research grants. Since 2020, Tania has worked with world-leading life sciences companies, writing regulatory (IVD medical devices) and commercial content and currently writes scientific content for Pivotal Scientific and our clients.
