Mija Podcast
Today, stories about immigration, migrants, and borders are all over the news, our feeds, and our conversations. At a time when their voices aren’t being heard, Mija Podcast aims to share their stories to celebrate immigrants and their contributions on an international platform. The show is Studio Ochenta’s flagship multilingual series, available in English, French, Spanish, Mandarin, and Arabic. Since launching in 2019, Mija’s story reached #1 in 31 countries and is the recipient of the 2020 Webby Honoree and 2021 Lovie Award shortlist for Best Series.
So who is Mija?
This fictional “audio novela” podcast is narrated by a young girl simply named Mija (“My daughter” in Spanish) who shares stories from her family tree in short audio vignettes. The series' first three seasons each explore the stories of a different immigrant family: Colombian-American, Franco-Chinese, and British-Egyptian.
Mija has 2 mini-series: Mija Shorts and Mija Musica, which explore stories related to the original Latin American Mija. In the most recent season “Mija on the Mike”, the Latin American Mija invites daughters of immigrants from around the world to share their experiences in a weekly show that blends solo narrative vignettes with interviews.
