Trump up in Nevada by 3% over Biden as Dem’s prospects fade

LAS VEGAS — The odds for former President Donald Trump are on the rise in the Silver State, a new Emerson College poll reveals, with President Biden’s support slipping amid rising calls from Nevadans for the Democrat to drop out of the race.

An Emerson College poll sponsored by Democrats for the Next Generation finds Trump getting 43% of registered voters surveyed, versus 40% for the incumbent Biden and 9.2% going to “other” candidates.

Trump has gained a point among voters since March 2024, Emerson College said, while Biden has lost a point in the same period.

The polling took place after the July 13 attempted assassination attack on Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, but one day before Biden canceled an address to the UnidosUS Hispanic advocacy group’s convention here due to contracting COVID-19.

Overall, the pollsters said, there’s been a two-point drop in Biden’s support since early July, putting Trump at 46% nationally compared to Biden’s 42%, while 12% remain undecided.

The poll also revealed that 51% of registered Nevada voters believe Biden should drop out of the race.

Asked if Trump should quit the race, 47% of Nevada registered voters said he should exit.

Reasons for the exit demands were not listed.

Biden’s Las Vegas visit was the latest effort by his campaign, which in recent weeks has been bringing in the big guns of the Democrat Party like Jane Fonda, AOC, FLOTUS and Vice Prez Kamala Harris to stump for the ticket.

The campaigners hammered Republicans on abortion rights, despite a 1990 state referendum that protects the procedure from any restrictions.

The GOP, on the other hand, has emphasized the rising cost of living in the Silver State, including massive increases in rent, grocery prices and gasoline costs. On June 9, Trump unveiled his “No Tax on Tips” proposal, an idea later proposed as a bill by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) that was quietly co-sponsored by Nevada Democrat Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen.

Rosen is facing a tough re-election battle this year against retired Army captain Sam Brown, a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient who narrowly survived a roadside bomb explosion while serving in Afghanistan in 2008.
