‘Simpsons’ episode pulled after Donald Trump’s assassination attempt
An episode of “The Simpsons” was reportedly pulled from airing on Channel 4 in the UK after a gunman shot at Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania campaign rally on Saturday.
The episode, “Lisa the Iconoclast,” originally aired in 1996.
The plot follows Lisa as she discovers that the founder of her hometown, Springfield, was a murderous pirate who tried to kill George Washington at one time, and viewed the citizens of Springfield with contempt. Lisa tries to tell everyone the truth about the town founder, but nobody is interested in hearing it.
During one scene, Lisa stands at a podium while a law enforcement official can be seen on a rooftop, taking aim at her — in a visual eerily similar to what happened at the Trump rally on July 13, 2024.
Donald Sutherland, who died at 88 in June, was a guest star in the episode.
It was supposed to air at 1 p.m. in the UK on Sunday, July 14, as part of a Season 7 marathon, per the Independent.
Instead, it was quietly replaced by an episode from Season 30, “Baby You Can’t Drive My Car,” which follows Marge and Homer as they work at a company that makes self-driving cars.
On Saturday, the former president, 78, was at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when a gunman on a roof fired shots, clipping Trump in the ear, killing a volunteer firefighter in the crowd, and gravely wounding two others.
The gunman, who was killed by Secret Service snipers, has since been identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks. According to voter status records, Crooks was a registered Republican. He reportedly purchased 50 rounds of ammunition before taking aim at Trump. It’s also been reported that he was once rejected from joining his high school shooting club.
He was also wearing a shirt for a popular gun YouTube channel called Demolition Ranch.
Crooks’ motives are currently unclear.
“The doctor at the hospital said he never saw anything like this, he called it a miracle,” Trump exclusively told The Post on Sunday, describing how the Secret Service agents came in like “linebackers.”
He added, “The agents hit me so hard that my shoes fell off, and my shoes are tight . . . It’s surreal for all of us.”
“I’m not supposed to be here. I’m supposed to be dead,” Trump continued. “I’m supposed to be dead.”
Channel 4’s viewers noticed the change in “The Simpsons” schedule, and took to social media. “Wondered at first why Channel 4 just pulled the scheduled broadcast of ‘Lisa The Iconoclast’ but I think I get it,” one wrote.
Another fan commented: “I did wonder why a random later season episode was thrown in the middle of this Season 7 mini marathon.”
“I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a member of the public looking at the schedule and phoning them up or sending an email,” another viewer remarked.
