‘Despicable Me 4’ still No. 1 in box office, helping animated franchise become first to reach $5B

The Minions deserve a medal.

“Despicable Me 4” was No. 1 in the box office on its second Friday in theaters, earning $13.6 million, The Numbers reported.

The sixth installment in the “Despicable Me” franchise, which stars its Minions, a species of little yellow henchmen, helped the franchise to become the first animated one to reach $5 billion at the global box office, according to Deadline.

The horror movie “Longlegs,” starring and produced by Nicolas Cage, came in second, with sales of $10 million.

The Post called the film, where Cage plays a serial killer, “one of the best horror movies of the past several years.”

“Inside Out 2,” which was in second place last Friday, fell down a notch to third, with just over a $6.1 million-dollar take.

On Wednesday, it surpassed 2018’s “Incredibles 2” to become Pixar’s biggest worldwide earner of all time, as per The Hollywood Reporter.

“Fly Me to the Moon,” a rom-com drama starring A-listers Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum, landed in fourth, with close to $4.5 million in revenue.

The Post said the movie, which is centered around the Apollo 11 moon landing, “is a mystifying misfire all along the way from initial concept to end credits.”

In fifth place was “A Quiet Place: Day One,” which fell two spots from last Friday, with $3.6 million in revenue.
