Burned-out Gen Z, millennials are opting for ‘sleepcations’: ‘Sometimes you need to rest’

They’re catching flights to catch some Z’s.

Partying like a rock star? Soaking in exotic cultures while sightseeing foreign lands? Thrill-seeking on electrifying excursions?

Yeah, no.

Rather than hitting the town, overtaxed Gen Z and Millennial jet setters are preferring to hit the hay on “sleepcations.”

“Vacations are cool,” said travel tastemaker @Shimmerlifestyle in a recent TikTok video, featuring ultra-swank sights of her sleepcation suite at Hôtel Swexan in Dallas, Tex. “But sometimes you just need to rest and sleep!.”

Young tourists just aren’t buying into the old “when you snooze, you lose” racket anymore.

Much like the sleep tourism trend, sleepcations, or “napcations,” are getaways rooted in rest and relaxation — needs that are recently all the rage amongst Zoomers and trendsetters of the Y2K-era.

A February analyst of 2 million adults found that folks 18 to 34 are going to bed earlier and sleeping longer than ever before, hoping to boost their mental and physical health.

However, according to Hilton’s 2024 Trends Report, travelers across all generations are pointing to restorative rest as their top reason for vacationing this year.

But standing out in the crowd of chill-seekers are Gen Z and millennials, per vacation pros at TravelPerk. The escape experts determined that a staggering 61% of young trippers are prioritizing “self-care” and “personal wellness” for their upcoming leisurely holidays.

To accommodate the masses, luxe lodges worldwide, including Equinox Hotel New York in Hudson Yards, are wowing weary guests with peace-enhancing amenities such as AI-powered mattresses and “bedtime lattes” for over $1,800 per stay.

Lashirra, a nurse from Georgia, virally celebrated her birthday in May with a solo sleepcation at the Waldorf Astoria in Atlanta.

Married mom influencer, Mads, and her hubby, too, cooled out with a little shut eye while on a tropical sleepcation away from their busy brood of three.

But some sleepyheads who aren’t so keen on charging a hotel flop to their credit cards are, instead, catching much-need winks on napcation staycations in the comforts of their own homes.
