‘Amazin’ But True’ Podcast Episode 176: It’s Finally Ronny Mauricio Time feat. Jerry Blevins

nypost mets podcast mauricio

The wait is over.

It’s finally Ronny Mauricio time in Queens.

Though the highly touted Mets prospect probably should have been called up in June or July, he finally gets the call up to begin September.

With just 28 games to play, it won’t be a huge sample size for Mauricio, but a chance to see what he can bring to a Mets lineup that could use a boost.

This should end the days of Danny Mendick, Jonathan Arauz and Daniel Vogelbach — hopefully.

The September lineup cards should feature the baby Mets.

No more of these guys with no part of the 2024 Mets plans.

Mauricio, Brett Baty, Francisco Alvarez and Mark Vientos should be playing a bulk of these games together.

DJ Stewart is the non-baby Met that also is earning himself playing time.

Give this suffering Mets fan base a reason to watch a last place team this final month.

To talk about Mauricio getting called up, Stewart’s sizzling bat, the future of Pete Alonso and everything else going on in a busy time in Mets land, we bring you a new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with me and special guest, former Mets pitcher and SNY analyst Jerry Blevins.

‘Amazin’ But True’ Podcast with Jake Brown & guest co-host Jerry Blevins:

  • GO DJ, THAT’S MY DJ: Stewart had the game of all games on Wednesday: Two home runs, a game saving catch running into the wall and a walk-off hit by pitch in the 10th inning. Stewart is playing like a guy fighting for a spot on the Mets roster in 2024. Eight homers in two weeks is impressive. It’s quite the story for a first-round pick that did not pan out in Baltimore and dealt with injuries. Hard not to root for him.
  • MAURICIO TIME: Excited to see what he will bring to the table. He should be playing as close to all of the final 28 games as possible. They should play him all over the field from outfield to third, second and even a game or two at shortstop. He showed power and speed in Syracuse. Hard to fathom why he didn’t get a chance here earlier after getting passed up on by everyone else.
  • RONNY-TEMBER: If Ronny has a good month, could he be a starter to open 2024? What do we need to see from him this final month? It looks like Baty will be back for the month of September to play alongside him. Do we see Baty in left and Ronny at third and vice versa?
  • PETE ALONSO’S METS FUTURE: Cannot see a point where Alonso is a toxic part of the clubhouse. He is an earnest kid. Nothing wrong with Mets listening to offers for him in a trade. If they get a haul for him that includes pitching talent, it makes sense to do the trade. He shows up every day and plays solid defense.
  • BUCK & BILLY’S METS FUTURE: Will Billy Eppler be back next season? Will Buck Showalter be back? Will be interesting to see if Buck is back managing a different team next year.
