The hits and misses from the Emmys red carpet

The red carpet at last night’s Emmy Awards was a scorcher.

As the mercury rose to 90 degrees, the looks burned bright like the sun, with yellow in all its shades outshining everything else.

Taylor Schilling of “Orange Is the New Black” opted out of both those colors — instead favoring a one-shouldered Stella McCartney gown in the headline hue. Padma Lakshmi preferred her yellow dazzler in a jewel-toned citrine by Romona Keveza. Kiernan Shipka, a precocious fashionista showing everyone how it’s done at 15, pulled out a fashion-forward Dior couture peplum top in a sweet-tart lemon print over black pants.

Beyond the California sunshine, the spectrum opened up to a rainbow heavy on blue, pink and cranberry. Jaimie Alexander, star of NBC’s new “Blindspot,” and Ellie Kemper of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” both wore all the colors at once. Alexander managed to look sexy in skin-concealing Armani Privé, while Kemper broke up the monotone monotony in a chevron-patterned Naeem Khan.

A few embraced the ’80s resurgence in fashion. Kerry Washington got her big-shouldered silver Marc Jacobs dress straight off last week’s New York runway. And “Empire” star Taraji P. Henson channeled a tough little Cookie in her chain-strap Alexander Wang gown. By strange coincidence, “Homeland” actress Claire Danes also sported chains on her grape Prada gown. “You’ve got weapons,” said Ryan Seacrest.

That’s dressing for the red carpet, Ryan. You’ve got to pack some heat.

No “Scandal” here. Washington looked fierce and fresh — the dress debuted on the designer’s runway a mere four days ago.

She’s the chain attraction. This gown’s simple — but the sparkle lends just enough oomph.
