• Nearly 18 million holidaymakers are considering descending onto the UK’s favourite European TV locations including King’s Landing in Dubronvik and Ripley’s Amalfi Coast.
  • Virgin Media has created an interactive map of Europe to make it easy to find TV locations, perfect for holiday goers to check out before they go abroad.
  • O2 customers can use their mobile data (up to 25GB) to discover the iconic locations whilst abroad in Europe at no extra cost

Virgin Media has created a first-of-its-kind interactive map of Europe to help Brits find iconic TV locations. The map pinpoints famous TV filming destinations and arrives as over two in three holidaymakers (67%) admit to wanting a European map that directs them to epic TV hotspots.

Nearly 18 million* UK tourists are expected to descend on famous TV locations in Europe this summer, with Dubrovnik, Amalfi Coast and Corfu taking some of the top spots. The full list of the top locations include:

Dubrovnik, Croatia
Amalfi Coast, Italy
Sicily, Italy
Corfu, Greece
Benidorm, Spain
Bath, England
Paris, France
Majorca, Spain
Paros, Greece
Dunraven Bay, Wales
Monsanto, Portugal
Scottish Highlands, Scotland
Barcelona, Spain
Barry Island, Wales
Stimigliano, Italy
Akureyri, Iceland

Of the 16 destinations listed, only four featured are from the UK, so it’s no surprise that nearly one in four (24%) TV fans have booked a trip to a European destination (outside the UK) simply because they watched a show that had been filmed there.

Does this make sense? Over a quarter (28%) of the UK public would visit a TV filming location even if they hadn’t seen the show, but it seems that those aged 25 – 34 years olds are the biggest (Shaun the) sheeps, as the stat jumps to up to over 2 in 5 (41%) for their age range.

Having access to the internet while abroad is essential on holiday according to 65% of the UK population, and further jumping to 80% for tourists aged 35-44 years old. A main factor for this could be because 72% of Brits use the internet to plan their holiday itinerary while they’re away.

Holidaying without a handset can leave tourists feeling mobile moody, with a quarter (25%) of sightseers admitting that it would negatively impact their mood if they had to leave their mobile back at their accommodation.

All TV shows listed are available via Virgin Media TV and can be enjoyed at home or while abroad via the Virgin TV Go App. O2 customers can also tune in and watch their favourite shows while settled on a sun lounger using their inclusive data (up to 25GB) at no extra cost in 49 European destinations.
