Research Labs and Branches

Research labs and branches include several research groups, each led by a principal investigator.

Scientists in NEI research labs

NEI scientists are part of the National Institutes of Health Intramural Research Program (IRP). With 1,200 Principal Investigators and more than 4,000 Postdoctoral Fellows conducting basic, translational, and clinical research, the IRP is the largest biomedical research institution in the world. We are NEI Intramural.

Clinical Research

Laboratory of Immunology

Research groups within the Laboratory of Immunology study ocular immunity, the microbiome of the eye, and how the immune system can be harnessed to improve eye health.
