Formed in the early '00s in New Orleans, MUTEMATH specialise in futuristic electro-pop that isn't afraid to deconstruct sonic boundaries. "Changes" is a slinky hybrid of R&B and synth-pop with watery piano, snapping rhythms and wobbly keyboard effects. "Typical" is another study in contrasts, as calming ambient sounds bring a tranquility to the song's urgent, corrugated guitars and Paul Meany's smoky vocals. MUTEMATH's gleeful amalgamation of styles adds a bubbly depth to their sound, which includes takes on frothy roller-disco jams ("Joy Rides"), space-age funk ("Blood Pressure") and electro-plated prog-pop ("Noticed").
