Tshwane Gospel Choir

About Tshwane Gospel Choir

Established in 2009 by businessman Bheki Langa to nurture talented musicians from historically disadvantaged regional communities, the Tshwane Gospel Choir performs as a multicultural ensemble of 34 vocalists accompanied by a six-piece band. Their music is a slick, soul-stirring blend of indigenous South African styles and contemporary gospel, which the choir sings in Zulu, Xhosa, Sesotho, Setswana, Sepedi and English. Horns deliver a brassy punch and the sliding bass sound of Township jive keeps everything down to earth. While their travelling "Spirit of Africa Show" demonstrates the continent's rich musical diversity, the choir has offered a singular Christian message to South Africans since their 2014 debut album, Modimo Wa Mehlolo (God of Miracles). They also cross national borders on tracks like "Bring Back Our Girls" from 2020's Mbonge, a plea for rebel forces in Nigeria to release kidnapped students.
