About Heavy-K
South African house music mainstay Heavy-K earned himself the moniker “The Drumboss” thanks to the thundering knocks which dominate his songs. Born Mkhululi Siqula in 1991 in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Heavy-K was raised in a musical family and early in his career drew inspiration from the elegant earworms of the late South African house producer Bojo Mujo. Ever since his 2013 breakout single, “Easy to Love”, with the singer Bucie, Heavy-K’s music has been a consistent presence on dance floors and pop charts. The 2015 single “Sweetie” merged guest vocalist Nokwazi’s Afropop stylings with a hypnotic marimba loop and crashing percussion. Throughout a career full of blockbuster hits and big-name collaborations with the likes of Burna Boy, Black Coffee, and DJ Tira, Heavy-K has maintained his ability to craft sophisticated house bangers that don’t compromise on catchiness.
