On their eighth studio album, the stalwarts of Southern-fried Christian rock seem intent on addressing the downcast and the despairing; the band’s faith-filled, Christ-centred lyrics allow them to offer real hope, while their addictive riffs and concert-ready choruses keep the album upbeat and energetic. For a while, Wherever You Are is downright electrifying, slowing only a bit for the emphatic ballad “Cry Out to Jesus.” The devotional “Communion” cools things out to a more meditative pace, but its soulful glow will keep listeners rapt.
