Jars of Clay come into their own on their second album, revealing their gift for melancholic folk-pop that's laced with imagery more spiritual than scriptural. The baroque-flavoured “Frail” bravely delves into human weakness, and “Overjoyed” is sweetened with Beatles-esque harmonies and guitar lines—both are so achingly fragile that they could dissolve at any moment. The band also add a dash of rock ’n’ roll crunch to the single “Crazy Times”, sucking in listeners with sad, dreamy textures.
