Randy Newman came to fame as the avatar of the '70s singer/songwriter movement's dark side. His sharply satirical songs skewered everything from racism to romance, but his first major taste of success came with covers of his tunes from the likes of Dusty Springfield, Peggy Lee, Three Dog Night and Harry Nilsson. In addition to releasing solo albums throughout the '80s and into the '00s, the multiple Oscar and GRAMMY® winner probably enjoyed his biggest payday composing music for animated movies like Toy Story and A Bug's Life.
