During their two decades together, Ike & Tina Turner exemplified rhythm ‘n' blues dynamite. Tina sang with the gale force of a hurricane wind, while guitarist and arranger Ike melded blues and rock ‘n' roll into an irrepressibly funky alloy. On 1960's “It's Gonna Work Out Fine”, Tina unleashed a stunning display of raw, wailing, girl-group soul atop tremolo-laden guitar. The duo sounded like they were in your living room during the intimate intro of “Proud Mary” before they exploded into its brassy centre, and they shimmered within Phil Spector's trademark wall of sound on “River Deep Mountain High”.
