Opposing forces govern High Contrast's sleek, emotive drum ‘n' bass. “Return of Forever” kicked off his 2002 debut album by dancing on the knife's edge between wistful melody and percussive thrills, and that dichotomy has become his stock-in-trade. “Racing Green” laces rolling breaks with silky disco string vamps, while “Remind Me”, from 2017's Night Gallery, collides joy into sorrow with a fantastically bittersweet soul sample. “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” manages a similar fusion of mournful trip-hop with jump-up jungle, tunnelling inside the pulse-raising rush to find the still eye of the storm.
