Yo Majesty

The Tampa, Florida-based trio challenged the misogynistic tones of party-friendly hip-hop, serving up ultra-nasty lyrics over atypical beats that blended elements of house, garage, electro, and Miami bass. Originally Yeah Majesty, MCs Shunda K and Shon B recruited R&B/gospel songstress Jwl B to form Yo Majesty in the early 2000s. Collaborating with U.K. production team Hard Feelings, Yo Majesty recorded their debut EP, Kryptonite P***y, in 2006, which introduced the group's confrontational and experimental hip-hop -- over the top, sex-obsessed rhymes, rowdy vocal deliveries, and high-energy beats -- to the listening public. In 2008, the group released their debut LP, Futuristically Speaking...Never Be Afraid, featuring production from Basement Jaxx, Sunship, Ceri Evans, and DJ Dee Kline.
