About The Lightning Seeds
The Lightning Seeds proudly carry on Liverpool’s legacy of jangly, tuneful rock ’n’ roll. Ian Broudie, then known for his tenure in punk band Big In Japan and for his production work with Echo & The Bunnymen and The Pale Fountains, formed the band in 1989. Broudie’s experience helped The Lightning Seeds emerge fully formed with the sugary pop-rock single “Pure”, which reached the Top 40 in the U.S. and U.K., and the chiming “Life of Riley” followed in 1992. The group continued to find chart success for much of the ’90s thanks to soundtracks—1995’s jaunty “Change” appeared in Clueless; the 1997 soul-tinted mod-rock Turtles throwback “You Showed Me” embodied Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery’s vibe—and collaborations. In 1996, the group and comedians David Baddiel and Frank Skinner took the England football anthem “Three Lions” to No. 1. Although The Lightning Seeds’ recorded output has slowed post-2000, they remain a robust touring draw.
