About Spacey Jane
Hailing from the western Australian outpost of Perth, Spacey Jane blissfully float between the jangly tradition of classic Antipodean indie pop and the sparkling radio-ready sheen of modern alt-rock. Formed in 2016 by singer/guitarist Caleb Harper, drummer Kieran Lama, guitarist Ashton Hardman-LeCornu and bassist Amelia Murray, the quartet immediately endeared themselves to the continent with their first EP, No Way to Treat an Animal. Though that six-song set was self-released, it managed to crack the Top 30 on the Australian charts with the infectious fusion of gritty swagger, quirky guitar melodies and psychedelic expanse heard on singles like “Feeding the Family”. After refining their sound on a couple more DIY EPs (and replacing Murray with Peppa Lane), Spacey Jane made their bid for the big leagues with their 2020 full-length debut, Sunlight, an album that solidified their position as the missing link between the urgent romanticism of fellow Aussie indie torchbearers Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and the stadium-razing heartland anthems of Kings of Leon. With the starry-eyed midtempo ballad “Booster Seat”, the group lodged their first Top 10 single, propelling the album to No. 2 on the Australian charts en route to platinum certification.
