About Billy Porter
American actor, singer, and fashion icon Billy Porter is best known for his Tony-winning performance as drag bombshell Lola in Broadway blockbuster Kinky Boots, and his Emmy-winning turn as ballroom elder Pray Tell in popular FX series Pose. For Porter, stardom was all but preordained. Born in 1969 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he began training for the stage from a young age. In 1992 he emerged victorious on television talent show Star Search with a stirring rendition of Jennifer Holiday’s “A Dream With Your Name On It”, taking home the $100,000 cash prize. He became a Broadway fixture throughout the ‘90s and 2000s with singing credits in productions of Miss Saigon, Grease and Little Shop of Horrors. Following his 2013 breakthrough in Kinky Boots, Porter released two albums of musical theatre standards, 2014's Billy's Back On Broadway and 2017's Billy Porter Presents: The Soul of Richard Rodgers. In 2019, Porter proved that he’s equally at home on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart with the No. 1 hit “Love Yourself”.
