From his days as a member of the Grip Boiz collective, to being signed as a Chocolate City artist in 2017, Yung L—aka Mr Marley, real name Christopher Omenye—has patiently waited for his turn to lord his talent over Nigeria’s dancehall scene. His 2021 album, Yaadman Kingsize, was a boisterous proclamation of that arrival on the big stage, and the singer-songwriter follows it with CLRS, a more mellow yet equally confident project. “Big Deal” is a statement of gratitude for an important partner who makes him feel “blessed so me cup runneth over”. Yung L and Mr. Vegas also set the dance floor alight with “Jo”, a mellifluous statement of seductive intent, while muses become kryptonite on “Wishlist”. Overall, L peels off his bad-boy status across the five-track EP to reveal the stripes of a Casanova capable of surreal romance.
