Anything worth doing is worth doing more than once. That certainly justifies Alan Jackson's second album of spiritual material, arriving seven years after its predecessor. Instead of trying to graft country arrangements onto these traditional tunes, Jackson sagely sticks to a straight gospel feel for most of the album, his oaky baritone delivering hymns like "Amazing Grace" and "When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder" in simple but powerful settings. The occasional bluegrass touch ("There Is Power in the Blood") underlines the perennial connection between bluegrass and gospel.
