For his new single, Tebey decided to bring back a classic country tradition: a call-and-response duet. After penning “Hangover at My Place” with co-writers Danick Dupelle, Griffen Palmer and Stuart Walker, the Canadian singer-songwriter decided to tap Tenille Arts to lend her voice to the sweeping ballad, which Tebey says is a one-off project. “Initially we didn’t intend to write it as a duet, but once the chorus melody started to take shape, we thought it could be cool to have a male and female call-and-answer-type chorus, which you don’t really hear much anymore,” Tebey says. “I remember saying to my co-writers the day we wrote the song, ‘You know who would sound killer on this? Tenille Arts!’” “The first time I heard the song I was so excited,” Arts adds. “It felt like a throwback duet but also current, and I was honoured that he thought of me. They did such a great job of writing a back-and-forth song that paints a picture of a night out and meeting someone new.” Listen to “Hangover at My Place” and then check back as we showcase the finest modern country songs made by Canadians.
