Balmain—the global luxury brand led by creative director Olivier Rousteing—and Apple Music have joined forces to launch Signature, a one-of-a-kind destination that fuses music and fashion. The centrepiece of it all is the Signature playlist, born from Balmain’s DNA: boldness, maximalism and the effortless blending of disparate eras and styles. This update of the Signature playlist is to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Olivier Rousteing’s groundbreaking run as Balmain’s creative director, and the brand’s Spring 2022 collection, unveiled at Paris Fashion Week in a star-studded runway show extravaganza. “As I think back on the incredible journey that I’ve been on over the past 10 years, overseeing so many collections and adventures, I think that I can sum up my decade as Balmain creative director as being one marked by both surprising innovation and a deep respect for this house’s singular heritage,” says Rousteing. “Back in 2011, selecting a 25-year-old who looks like me to head up a historic Parisian couture house was an unusual choice that startled more than a few people.” One unusual choice Rousteing made in his run was making music a key part of Balmain’s identity. That was reflected in the Paris Fashion Week show, which featured performances by Doja Cat and Franz Ferdinand and a cameo by Beyoncé. It’s also reflected in this playlist, which serves as Balmain’s go-to soundtrack—on virtual runways, on its digital platforms and in its stores around the world. It’s updated regularly around Balmain’s Signature moments, such as this anniversary celebration and Fashion Week show. This update is heavy on music from the Y2K era that Rousteing grew up on, a font of inspiration for the bold silhouettes from his latest line.
